Atlee would not be where it is today without the unselfish service of literally hundreds of volunteers over many years. Volunteers serve in a variety of ways. Many opportunities exist that allow people to get connected to Atlee by using their gifts and abilities. First Serve Ministry allows you the opportunity to "try on" various volunteer experiences within the church until you find the area of ministry where you feel welcomed, equipped and energized to serve. In other words test the waters, and "try it and see if you like it". For a detailed listing of opportunities please click here. We encourage you to discover how God has gifted you and then find a place of meaningful service through one of our ministry teams. An easy way to help identify your gifts is to take the Spiritual Gifts assessment. Also find out what you are passionate about. You can find the Spiritual Gifts assessment at “The Connection” table located in the lobby or take the test online Spiritual Gifts and Passion (Please email us your results) If you are interested in getting plugged into one of these volunteer opportunities then please call the church office at 730-3676 or email office@atleechurch.org. Below is a brief description of some of the Ministries that we currently have to offer:
Greeters Atlee greeters are the friendly faces you see handing out programs and wishing you a good morning or offering help at the Information Center. Greeters work in teams and serve one Sunday a month.
Ushers Once visitors arrive in the auditorium, ushers help by directing them to vacant seats before and during the service. They also assist people entering and exiting the auditorium while the service is in progress to help eliminate noise and distractions. Ushers serve during one of the services one Sunday a month.
Administrative Help From answering the telephone in the office to helping prepare the next mailing from your own home, volunteers serve in a variety of ways to help with the many tasks in and around the office. Volunteers serve on an as-needed basis or a scheduled weekly basis depending on the individual's availability.
Media Ministry Sunday morning messages are available to order on compact disks or audiocassettes. Volunteers make copies of the message using church equipment during the week and on Sunday people take and deliver orders at the Information Center.
Hospitality The hospitality team is perfect for those who enjoy hosting or have the gift of hospitality. Members help prepare food, set up for special social functions and provide care for families in need.
Teaching People with gifts in teaching can volunteer to lead a home-based Small Group, serve as an apprentice to a small group leader, or volunteer with KidStuf or Atlee Student Ministry.
Prayer As prayer requests are shared with the church, a chain of people are notified of the need and begin to pray. People with the gift of intersession or those who like to pray for others in need are a great fit for this team.
Landscaping and Lawn Care Maintaining the church inside and out is very important for keeping the church in shape. Volunteers work together on the landscaping maintenance, and cut the grass around the church during the week.
Community Care This ministry serves others by extending care to those in need through various sub-ministries. Below are the ministries that fall under Community Care. · Hospital - Volunteers provide care for those in the hospital with phone calls, sending cards, making visits, or helping family members. · Health Ministry - Those who have training or interest in health care or health awareness and prevention volunteer professional service as consultants, educators, or providing periodic services such as blood pressure checks. · Grief Support - Volunteers help people and families recover from losses associated with divorce, major illness, or death.
Extension Ministries Skilled and unskilled individuals help in our community by providing assistance in repairs and maintenance to needy families. Others travel to locations overseas for ministry. By ministering to people throughout our community and even the world, we can be an example of God's love to those who may have never had the opportunity to experience it. · Local and Urban - These volunteers help in various ways such as painting, repairs, construction and clean up on homes around the metro-Richmond area. Atlee also supports food distribution for the homeless downtown once a month. There are seasonal extension efforts, such as distribution of presents for children and food for needy families at Christmas. · International - Each year we sponsor a major overseas trip and people volunteer to participate through personal service, prayer, and financial support in our Extension Ministry.
Children's Ministry Volunteers in the Children's Ministry serve as teachers or as helpers for a class during one Sunday morning service and other workers serve during New Community. As Atlee continues to grow, we are always looking for new faces to help with the children's program.
Student Ministry Students in grades six through twelve attend one of the weekly Atlee Student Ministry programs designed for their age group. Volunteers serve by working with Middle School or High School students as small group leaders, assisting with programming or "crowd control" on a consistent basis or during special events.
eMinistry (electronic ministries) The eMinistry team consists of information system professionals and other computer professionals. The team is made up of volunteers with web skills, database skills, graphic artists, networking skills, help desk skills, desktop publishing skills, programmers, and other computer skills.
Drama Team The Drama Team consists of volunteers who work together to provide weekly performances on Sunday morning, and occasionally at other special events. If you have a passion for acting, building sets, or writing scripts, we are waiting for you to come join us.
Technical Team The programs you see would not be a success without this vital team. People on the tech team serve together by operating the sound table, stage lights, stage curtain, and audio visual gear. We are always on the lookout for those that may want to plug in by being a stagehand, and assisting the Technical Director throughout the programs.
Music Team If you play an instrument, or love to sing, the Music Team wants to hear from you! The Music Team provides music for both Sunday morning services and for special events.
