Above and Beyond

A supporter of Atlee Community Church is seen in many different ways. The whole list is too large to mention, but here are a few; one might serve on the Greeter Team, or provide a hot cup of coffee from the Community Café, others volunteer with our new KidStuf & UpStreet programs (which are having a huge impact on families), some offer their support by helping with Student Ministries, or by providing administrative help in the office. In addition to this many give of their financial resources, which ultimately enables us to do ministry here at Atlee.

So what is the purpose of this letter? We would like to inform you of our financial need. Over the last few months our weekly giving has been down substantially. At the beginning of the summer our giving went down as it typically does, however the giving has not returned to the pre-summer levels as it normally would this time of year. The weekly giving needed to meet budget is $19,530. Since September 1 our weekly giving has averaged $14,540. Since July we have withdrawn $55,000 from savings to offset the shortfall leaving us with very little reserve. At this rate our lack of finances will soon hurt our ministry efforts.

Recently the staff and leadership met to discuss the seriousness of the situation. During the time together the suggestion was made that if just 300 people would give $200 above and beyond their normal giving we could make up the budget deficit. After more discussion and prayer the staff, the Spiritual Management Team and the Trustees decided to lead the way in this effort. Together they have pledged more than $7550 above and beyond their regular giving.

On Sunday morning, November 12, Pastor Jeff issued a challenge. “We are praying and asking God to help us raise $60,000 by December 3rd.

Specifically we are asking that 300 people be willing to give $200 above and beyond what they would normally give.” With just three Sundays to accomplish this, people responded the first Sunday very generously and sacrificially. Over 62 people gave more than $20,000 above and beyond their regular giving. God is so good!

Pastor Jeff went on to say, “Now some of you are thinking there is just no way you can give $200. All I ask is that you pray and ask God what he wants you to do, but be careful because he might ask some of you to give more.” He continued, “Listen I am not asking you to give just to pay the light bill or the mortgage or even salaries. I am asking you to partner with us as staff and leaders of this church so that we can continue to provide a safe place for you to bring your friends, neighbors, and family members to so they can explore and experience God’s truth in their lives. Specifically I am asking you to give generously and sacrificially so that we can continue to provide the quality of ministry we have for the past 11 ½ years.”

So, if you are willing to give, we are asking that you write on your check or on the envelope the words ABOVE AND BEYOND so that we can keep track of what is given and then be able to share with you what God does.

God continues to confirm that we are on the right course with our vision to reach seekers and equip believers to love God, to love others and to serve the world. Recently, Atlee was asked to participate in a survey that was gathering information for the writing of a new book. Atlee was chosen as one of only 22 churches out of 14,000 because we averaged more than 26 baptisms a year over a 10-year period. How awesome is that!

Text Box: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this”, says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
Malachi 3:10 NIV

We are very excited about the future of this ministry and thankful for people like you who give so generously. With your continued support we will continue to lead the way in reaching those who are far from God. Together we can grow the kingdom of God one soul at a time!

Thank you again for your continued support!

Sincerely,

The Staff and Leadership of Atlee Community Church

 Christmas Eve 2006

“Connections”

Sam sits at Richmond International Airport, ticket in hand, wondering if she should board the plane to Philadelphia. Estranged from her family since she was 17, she struggles to decide whether this will be the Christmas she returns home. An interesting cast of concerned characters may be just what she needs to help make this holiday special.

Join us this Christmas Eve as the Atlee Arts Teams combine to present, “Connections”, a poignant and heartwarming play written by Susan Remley.

 Community Care

Have you have seen our new additions to the Ministry, namely the Community Care Cards and the CareNotes?  The Community Care Cards are there for you to let someone know of your need if you don’t know whom to turn to and/or if you desire to keep your need confidential. I will personally follow up with you and direct you to get the help you need.

CareNotes are powerful, practical and spiritually oriented eight-page pamphlets that cover issues such as anger, depression, grief, and loss. CareNotes along with the Community Care Cards are located next to The Connection table in the lobby.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the DivorceCare and DivorceCare 4 Kids seminar has been postponed. The new dates and times will be made available as soon as they are set.

My wife, Kitty, son, Gabriel, and I are looking forward to getting to know and serve you in the months and years to come! – Pastor Glenn

Securities  - Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds

A gift of Stocks, Bonds or Mutual Funds typically involves publicly traded shares, such as those traded on the major exchanges and over-the-counter, as well as most mutual funds. Supporting Atlee Community Church with a gift of securities can provide significant tax benefits for the donor – bypassing capital gains taxes and providing a valuable tax deduction –both of which effectively reduce the cost of making a gift.

Charitable Rollover

A recently passed federal law, The Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) allows for the long awaited charitable rollover of gifts to a qualified public charity from both Traditional and Roth IRA’s.  For potential donors to be eligible, they must be at least 70½ years old and the funds must be distributed directly from your plan administrator to Atlee Community Church. This opportunity is available until December 31, 2007.

FUSION STUDENT MINISTRIES

This fall has seen tremendous momentum in student ministry here at Atlee and we plan to take this momentum into the winter and spring month. We will be having two second-semester retreats as well as weekly meetings with Crossroads for Middle School on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM and The EDGE for High School on Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM. Keep your eyes peeled for the new FSM calendar. As always FSM is committed to providing a safe place for your students to come, bring friends, and experience life to the fullest, and maybe even a whip cream pie to the face.
